Would you like to work in a busy, fast-paced energetic PR team, driven by a mission to ensure every dog has a life worth living?

Dogs Trust is the largest dog welfare charity in the UK, with a nationwide network of rehoming centres and charity shops. Dogs Trust cares for over 14,000 dogs a year; we never put a healthy dog down.

We’re looking for a PR Assistant to support the Public Relations team in all its activities on regional and national levels, working two days a week from our London office in Angel, Islington. This role would suit someone who has some experience in working within PR but is looking to develop their career a busy press office and support the work of a major national charity.

The Public Relations team sits within the Communications & Digital directorate. We help people to know, love and understand the charity and to take action to support the charity’s work. We use our understanding of Dogs Trust and the needs of our wide and varied audiences to produce impactful, creative, on-brand communications.

We have a strong focus on media relations work, proactively selling stories into print and broadcast media and digital outlets, reacting to enquiries in a timely and efficient manner and ensuring we’re equipped to handle a crisis.

Our PR Officers are strategically placed around the UK to ensure a geographical spread, each connected to a set of rehoming centres.

In this role, you will provide support to the whole PR Team, including managing and monitoring the busy Press Office inbox, directing enquiries to the relevant team members, as well as proactively researching and drafting statements. This role contributes to the media monitoring and reporting process, assist with issuing press releases with scope to plan and lead on other PR projects.

This role also involves administration tasks to support the PR Team including managing the press phone rota, organising meetings and taking notes, being the Internal Communications Champion, and managing the PR team forward planner.

We’re looking for someone with strong administrative skills, ideally within a communications environment with experience of working in a busy press office. You’ll have significant organisation and time-management skills and be able to work independently while confidently prioritise and juggle reactive and proactive work. You’ll have excellent written and verbal communications skills, with good attention to detail. You’ll be confident in using the MS Office suite.

If you’re a real team player with excellent people skills and an ability to make things happen, we’d love to hear from you!
