Position Overview & Specifications

Please note, this is an apprenticeship positions and therefore anyone with more than six months professional experience working as a software developer or who holds either a Computer Science or Software Engineering degree or Master’s degree will not be eligible.
You will also need to commit to completing a Level 4 Software Developer Apprenticeship.

Overview
We require a passionate, energetic and motivated individual who wishes to develop a career within Web Development. The apprentice will be fully trained to provide back up and support to the Senior Developer for all aspects of the Web Development process.
Opportunity for permanent Web Development role upon completing the Apprenticeship, and openings for career progression within the business, including other IT roles.

The role*

In the role you will:

  • Work with Senior Developers and implement code which is written in PHP
  • Refactor legacy code to reduce technical debt
  • Work with Senior Developers to remove bottlenecks from code
  • Ensure code and queries interacting with databases are parameterized
  • Identify and fix bugs that are found within PHP code bases
  • Create well written documentation

Essential skills

  • You have a proven interest in coding through your A Level / College course or online platforms like Code Academy and you’re seeking a Level 4 Software Developer apprenticeship
  • Some knowledge of the basic concepts of PHP
  • Have created and uploaded a website
  • You can write good quality code with sound syntax
  • Excellent written English
  • High attention to detail supported the ability to work to deadlines
  • Have initiative and a pro-active, enthusiastic ‘can do’ attitude
  • Be willing to learn about the software IT industry

Qualifications
Minimum: 5 GCSEs at grades A-C/9-4 (or equivalent) including maths and English Language
Desirable: 3 A Levels at grades A-C (or equivalent) in any subject but preferably one in a numerical or computing subject (e.g. maths, science, Computer Science etc.)
Applications will also be considered from graduates with non-computer science degrees looking for an apprenticeship route to a tech career.

Salary - £18k - £22k depending on skills and ability
