We have an exciting opportunity for a International Officer to join our team at the City of Portsmouth College (CoPC). The role is based in our Highbury Campus located in Portsmouth.

Main Duties and Responsibilities:

  • To recruit international students (of non-UK origin) onto mainstream courses and then to provide ongoing support; to maintain relationships with international recruitment agents.
  • To manage liaison with international recruitment agents; to organise international inward bound missions and to help develop international marketing materials.
  • Responsible for initial enquiries from international students looking to study sixth form type courses. Respond appropriately to telephone, personal and e-mail enquiries. Assess status of potential international students in order to determine eligibility and liaise with central admissions where appropriate.
  • Assess applications individually, particularly relating to appropriateness of course, equivalence of qualifications, language level and fee payment status, liaising with course teachers where necessary.
  • Manage and co-ordinate the admissions service, providing information and advice relating to courses on offer, arranging interviews and placement tests when required and processing individual enrolments for fee-paying students. Produce offer and acceptance letters for international students.
  • Set up and maintain a computerised database of international student records, analysing data and producing reports for academic and marketing purposes.
  • Liaise with and respond to queries from various departments including Admissions, MIS, Finance, Wellbeing/Safeguarding, Curriculum, Catering, plus others.
  • Draw up instalment agreements, follow up non-payments, and record on a spreadsheet amounts paid and owing. Liaise closely with Finance staff.
  • Management and co-ordination of international student homestay accommodation, advising students and homestay partners of accommodation details and providing necessary induction and orientation advice. Job Description & Person Specification International Officer May 2023.
  • Manage and coordinate international student enrolment, taking place in both September and January.
  • To manage the international students social programme which includes initiating, planning, organising and accompanying students (where appropriate) on day trips, weekend visits and social activities to ensure a positive experience for international students.
  • To manage occasional international teacher visits facilitated by our agents, including timetable creation and curriculum liaison, invoicing and the solicitation of feedback.
  • Provide ongoing personal support to international students, referring to Student Services where appropriate. Assist with the safeguarding of international students, including being on a 24 hour helpline rota.
  • Liaise with agents and external contacts, both locally and worldwide, welcome visitors and actively promote the College on a ‘global stage’.
  • Liaise closely with the Senior Leadership Team to ensure smooth running of the Global Engagement Department, provide cover and support for other services such as agent-arranged international visiting teachers, and homestay visitations.
  • Assist in the production of publicity materials and policy/procedure documents associated with the College’s international provision by working with Marketing.
  • Develop and maintain a general office filing system, including files of a confidential nature.
  • Prepare orders for equipment and consumables as required. Check invoices against goods received code and prepare invoices for payment.
