Position Overview & Specifications
We would consider BACP/ NCS or UKCP accredited counsellors who may need additional training in these IAPT modalities. Alternatively, the post holder may be a ‘practitioner psychologist’ with a protected title of clinical or counselling psychologist and registered with the HCPC.
The post holder will support the service to ensure that national guidelines are adhered to, targets are achieved and that the clinical governance arrangements are in place.
They will provide evidence based psychological interventions to patients at step 3 across all sectors of care, providing specialist psychological assessment and therapy at the same time as offering advice and consultation on clients’ psychological care to non-psychologist colleagues and to other, non-professional carers, working under supervision within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team’s policies and procedures.
The post holder is required to have professional accreditation with BABCP or should be eligible for accreditation with this professional body and actively undertaking the process of applying for accreditation. This would be expected within 3-6 months of starting in post.
The PWS is currently operating a hybrid working pattern. This means 80% of the work is done remotely and 20% is in-person. However, this is subject to review according to service need and Trust’s directive at any given time.

- Provide high intensity interventions for patients referred to the service. This will involve the use of NICE evidence based psychological interventions and may involve both individual and group work, using face to face contact, telephone, and other mediums as appropriate.
- To be able to formulate, implement and evaluate therapy programmes for clients and adhere to all clinical policies and procedures.
- To ensure treatment delivery remains accessible, convenient and with minimal waiting times as agreed by senior clinicians and managers.
- Attend appropriate clinical supervision groups, as agreed by professional and line manage
- To undertake risk assessment and develop risk management plans for clients.
- To provide advice to other professions on psychological aspects of risk assessment and risk management in line with Trust and inter-agency policies and procedures, including work with clients deemed as vulnerable adults.
- To produce reports on clients in a timely manner, that convey the key findings of psychological assessment, formulation and treatment outcome in a way that does justice to the complexity of the problems described, but that are understandable to the recipients of the reports, including clients and referrers.
- To work in partnership with other disciplines and to maintain links with statutory and non-statutory agencies as appropriate.
