Position Overview & Specifications

The Department of Immunology at Addenbrookes Hospital Cambridge seek an experienced HCPC registered specialist Healthcare Scientist.

This is for a full time, permanent position in our busy and progressive UKAS 15189 accredited Immunology laboratory. We provide an extensive specialist repertoire alongside a routine autoimmune serology, allergy and myeloma service to local, regional and international centres.

Working as part of our experienced scientific team in analysis of patient samples, you will be expected to take part in the shift system (days, evenings and Saturdays) after appropriate training.

This exciting opportunity is open to state registered Healthcare Scientists, with experience in an NHS diagnostic Immunology Laboratory. You will have a Masters degree, IBMS Specialist Diploma in Immunology or equivalent knowledge as assessed by the HCPC. Evidence of leading a small team and managing a bench or section within a department will be beneficial to your application.
  • Process routine and specialist investigations in department
  • Work independently and lead on specialist area as directed
  • Where required, lead and supervise a section of the laboratory.
  • Provide specialist service e.g. training, problem solving for specialist requirement
  • Supervise and train less experienced staff
  • Acts as mentor for more junior scientific and support staff
  • Provide specialist advice to clinicians as to appropriateness of tests and timescales
  • To work flexibly in reflection of service needs. This will include an extended working day and participation in delivery of a 12 hour, 6 days per week service
  • The work of the service brings staff into constant contact with human body fluids, tissues and hazardous chemicals. This may include blood, urine, CSF and respiratory secretions
  • Maintain and promote professional image of the CUH Trust
