Position Overview & Specifications

Legal Assistant/Paralegal/NQ Solicitor

Milton Keynes

Salary negotiable depending upon experience

Duties include:-

  • To assist all Solicitors with a number of family law clients in relation to divorce, children (private law), injunctions, cohabitees, financial remedy. All privately funded work and undertake your own caseload.

  • To undertake work in a timely and efficient manner, reporting where appropriate. This could be either fee earning or administrative work to include but not limited to:-

  • New client appointments
  • Deal with any matters thereafter
  • Prepare Court Applications
  • Take instructions from clients over the telephone or face to face
  • Prepare Statements
  • Prepare Form E financial statements
  • Prepare any other Court document or other documents
  • Prepare bundles
  • Photocopying
  • Deal with any procedural tasks delegated to you
  • Deal with any correspondence delegated to you
  • Sit behind Counsel, prepare attendance notes and report back thereafter
  • Record all work on the file and on the firm’s time recording system and invoice monthly as appropriate
  • Ensure files are kept in order
  • Ensure files are compliant with internal procedures, SRA, The Law Society and external regulations
  • Any other task of a fee earning or administrative nature assigned to you.

  • To consider each relevant and procedural element of all client matters on a regular basis and when appropriate or necessary, advise or consult with the client and/or receive, record and action their proper instructions

  • To keep up to date with all aspects of the law, its practice and procedures

  • To be responsible for maintaining the level of technical and service standards set by the firm

  • To achieve specified targets set for you for time recording and fees.

You will also ensure that:-

  • All aspects of the client’s matters are dealt with properly.

  • Review, consider and assess as necessary from time to time any cases or delegated aspects of cases and any cases it is your responsibility to deal with.

  • Issue proceedings, as appropriate, and ensure that proceedings are properly dealt with thereafter.

  • Deal with interlocutory matters and comply with all time limits imposed by the Courts.

  • Instruct Counsel, where appropriate, to advise or appear in Court on behalf of the client.

  • Prepare cases for hearing and arrange representation at any hearing, if necessary.
  • Report to your supervisor at all times to fulfil the requirements of the job, and to accept and promptly act upon their proper instructions
