Position Overview & Specifications

As a Production Technician you will be responsible for ensuring all assembly tooling, documentation and test equipment is made available for use.


You will be involved in design and manufacturing process of bespoke tooling including the optimisation of assembly and test methods to gain maximum efficiency.


The company


British Engines Group company, BEL Valves, offers design, manufacture, testing and aftermarket care for high integrity valves and actuators to critical offshore and onshore projects, within the energy market.


BEL Valves’ core activities are managed from the head office in Newcastle upon Tyne (UK), with international projects supported from a local and satellite network.

What you’ll be doing

  • Ensure all tooling is available and in good working order in line with the project schedule
  • Optimise and calibrate test equipment to ensure maximum throughput
  • Be responsible for all non-engineered test equipment and production engineering
  • Work with other departments to implement new test methods and products
  • Create and optimise assembly methods, tooling and operational routes
  • Produce and issue set-up data and instructions for optimal testing
  • Troubleshoot manufacturing problems, providing technical support and production options to the operations area
  • Assist in the investigations relating to operational incidents and accidents inclusive of process related incidents
  • Liaise with other departments to share and embed best practice and lessons learned
  • Control inventory, storage, service, and repair of all tooling / test equipment
  • Ensure equipment is safe to operate and conforms to statutory standards and ensure all safe operation procedures are in place
  • Work within the operational area assisting in the assembly and test of valves
  • Design or work with engineering for special tooling
  • Co-ordinate the material purchase and manufacture of special tooling
  • Ensure all operational procedures and audit shop floor activities are being worked to ensure standards are maintained
  • Support with research and development activities
  • Demonstrate a positive approach to Health, Safety and Environment (HSE) through good working practices, housekeeping and correct use of PPE
  • Adhere to risk assessments and company policies

Who we’re looking for


To apply, you must be a time served apprentice in Mechanical Engineering, or have completed a degree in this discipline. You should have a minimum of 2 years’ experience of working within an engineering/ manufacturing environment and have experience of valve/ actuator assembly and tooling requirements.


Knowledge of hydraulic, pneumatic and instrumentation systems used for pressure testing and monitoring is essential as well as data acquisition systems.


We’re looking for someone who has excellent communication and organisation skills, as well as self-motivator with a hands on approach. Being able to work independently as well as part of a team is essential.


A full UK driving licence is essential.


This position will be on a full time, permanent basis. Working hours are 37 per week.
