Position Overview & Specifications

Braehead Foods is looking for a Head of Logistics and Facilities to join the team, responsible for managing the execution, direction and coordination of all Transportation, Logistics & Facilities within Braehead Foods, 30 vehicles ranging from a Citroen van (multi temp) to an 18 ton truck.. The role will ensure that drivers, vehicles, and the building are safe, secure, and meet legal requirements. This role is based in Kilmarnock, but candidate must be flexible to travel to depots in Preston and London on a regular basis.

Responsibilities/ key result areas:

  • Provide transport solutions to ensure the effective and timeous delivery of orders to customers.
  • Manage and improve driver performance and standards using tracker and performance system.
  • Manage transport and repairs departmental P&Ls focussing on cost control, improving efficiency, reducing operating costs and achieving departmental KPIs.
  • Be customer focussed ensuring the product is delivered in prime condition in the most efficient, timely and cost-effective manner.
  • Ensure Health & Safety is paramount and all staff are rigorously trained, inducted and SOPs are adhered to. Includes being an active member of company Health & Safety team.
  • Manage all vehicle maintenance ensuring vehicles are road worthy and safe.
  • Manage relationships with repair garages to ensure best price and timely repairs and preventative maintenance.
  • Build strong working relationships with Warehouse Manager and Head of Food to ensure logistics solutions are optimal for the business and the customer.
  • Provide analytics on the fleet and evaluate departmental performance to aid strategic decision making.
  • Develop a sustainability strategy to reduce the carbon footprint of distribution.
  • Provide guidance to the maintenance manager to ensure optimal condition of the building and machinery.
  • Manage planned and reactive maintenance for maintenance team.
  • Develop a continuous improvement approach, always looking for ways to improve standards and efficiencies.
  • Actively participate in company management meetings daily, weekly, monthly.
  • Produce monthly performance reports for submission to the board.
  • Motivate the team and promote a positive work environment to create a highly motivated and functional team in line with company values.

Knowledge, skills and experience:

  • 5 years + experience managing a transport team and fleet.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Ability to manage and develop a team
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills
  • Ability to communicate and present to senior leadership team.
  • Strong IT skills, proficient in Microsoft Excel, Outlook, Word and Powerpoint.
  • Flexible to travel across the UK at short notice if required.
  • Full, clean UK driving license
  • Good customer service skills
  • CPC in Road Transport Operations Management
  • Class 2 HGV Licence is desireable

The role is full time, working 5/7 days.

£35k - £42k dependant on experience.
