The Academy for Medical Sciences (AMS) have awarded a grant to Dr Yutaka Matsubayashi in the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences, Faculty of Science and Technology. The project is entitled “Investigating the mechanisms that orchestrate basement membrane formation – toward the invention of future therapies”. The basement membrane is an extracellular matrix that is evolutionarily conserved and essential for animal tissue development and function, and whose anomalies cause various human diseases such as brain haemorrhage, kidney dysfunction, and skin fragility.
We seek to appoint a Research Assistant who participates in this project. You will have an undergraduate qualification in an appropriate field in biology and be able to work independently. Duties include maintaining fruit fly (Drosophila melanogaster) stocks and carrying out experiments on them. Experiences in genetics, molecular/cell/developmental/quantitative/systems biology, live imaging, and bioinformatics are greatly appreciated but not essential. Applicants who want to learn techniques in these disciplines are welcome.

This position is available on a fixed-term basis for up to 18 months from the employment start date.
