Position Overview & Specifications

Position Summary

We have an exciting opportunity for Synthetic Chemistry Technician join our synthetic chemistry laboratories in Compton, Berkshire, UK. Our chemistry team works on a wide variety of synthetic targets such as carbohydrates, nucleosides, peptides, heterocycles and natural products. The projects in the lab also range from small milligram scale up to kilogram scale. The successful candidate will therefore have the opportunity to be exposed to many different chemistries and techniques.

​Main Purpose of the Job

To execute lab work following provided synthetic routes to support existing client requirements

Role and Responsibilities

  • Synthesis of existing catalogue/client products.
  • Carry out the characterisation and data analysis of intermediates and products.
  • Record experimental detail and analytical data accurately.
  • Perform all laboratory work in a safe manner and comply with all regulations and adhere to company SOP and H&S policies.
  • Ordering stock of project chemicals where applicable.
  • Share basic maintenance and housekeeping duties of laboratory equipment and chemistry laboratory areas.
  • Update internal stakeholders on progress through weekly reports and updates in scientific meetings

Requirements

  • Minimum HNC/HND in Chemistry - ideally BSc
  • Good time management and planning skills.
  • Ability to work with minimal supervision.
  • Self-motivated, well organised and pro-active learner.
  • Flexible and reliable.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • An understanding of laboratory housekeeping and safety practices

You will also ideally have experience of working in a laboratory environment
