Position Overview & Specifications

About the role

Our apprentices feel supported, from the moment they join. Their mentor and our dedicated early careers team are always there for them. And our collaborative, people-first culture means that help and support just come naturally. It brings out the very best in them. It'll bring the best out in you too.

We are looking for an Apprentice Business Analyst to join our product development team, working collaboratively to continuously build and develop the products we offer to our customers.

Product Development teams are typically made up of product owners, business analysts, designers, data analysts, software developers, and test engineers who all work closely together across a wide range of products, in a fast-paced, agile environment, which means collaboration is vital.

A business analyst is an interpreter between two worlds: business and technology, bridging the gap of understanding between business and our technology teams. As your skills grow and you develop, you will analyse and understand business needs and define and manage business requirements. You'll play a part in the design and delivery of the development journey, from initial analysis of how customers use our software and the jobs they are doing, through scoping, defining, and prioritising the build requirements, and working with the developers through to release and beyond.

You will become a key communicator and driver of collaboration throughout the development life cycle, collating diverse information from the different teams. You will look deep into problems, pain points, all the granular details and collaborate with the software engineers, making recommendations to solve any problems identified whilst working across a diverse number of exciting projects.

Think of this as a career opportunity that combines the skills and aspects of a Project Manager, Data Analyst, and all-around collaborator with a focus on technology and the customer at the heart of it all.

As this is an apprenticeship, we will support your journey to complete a Level 6 apprenticeship (integrated degree) in Digital and Technology Solutions with an external training provider which lasts 36 months, however, this is a permanent, career opportunity and we will help you progress throughout your time at Auto Trader.

You can view the apprenticeship here; Institute for Apprenticeships

Our apprentices will be start in September 2023.

What we're looking for

  • You must have a minimum of 104 UCAS points. This could be gained from A-Levels or other higher education qualifications. You can calculate your UCAS point here - https://www.ucas.com/ucas/tariff-calculator
  • You currently hold a level 2/GCSE in English and Mathematics at grade 4 (C) or above or be willing to study these whilst completing your apprenticeship (subject to an entry test)
  • You are a natural problem solver, an interest in data, with an analytical mindset
  • Collaboration is key, so you'll love interacting with people
  • You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An interest in technology from software development to IT, data, and digital products/services 3

The apprenticeship will typically last 36 months so it requires dedication and a love of learning with a real aim to succeed. During your time as an apprentice, you will be part of our early careers network which will allow you to connect, support and share knowledge with other colleagues. This is a permanent role, and the apprenticeship along with our very own early careers academy will support your learning and development. You can still progress your career within Auto Trader prior to the apprenticeship ending.

Benefits and more

We're offering a salary between £21,500-£25,000 dependent on experience, and a flexible benefits package to support your health and well-being. You'll have 28 days holiday per year, and that's in addition to bank holidays and half day closures on Christmas and New Year's Eve. Our Aviva pension scheme offers between 5% to 7% employer contributions depending on the percentage you choose to contribute, and we provide Bupa healthcare cover for all of our employees.
Our employee assistance programme, enhanced parental leave and share-save options and are just some of the other benefits on offer should you decide to join us.
Career development is something that we're passionate about at Auto Trader, and we all develop and learn things differently. Whether you attend an external conference, utilise a LinkedIn Learning license or choose one of our in-house masterclasses, there's something for everyone.
Our hybrid working model, Connected Working, combines office with home working. We've split it into fixed and flexible days to help you get the best out of the working week. Everybody has two fixed office days with their team, so you will know that the rest of your team will be in on those days. There is an expectation that everyone is, on average, in more than out; therefore, on top of your two fixed days, we should see you in the office on other flexible days. You can choose these flexible days in the office depending on your work, home and team commitments.
