Lab Technician

Location: LS19 7AW, Leeds, West Yorkshire

Hours: 38 per week – Monday to Friday

Monday - Tuesday 7:30 - 4:30

Wednesday - Thursday 7:30 - 4:15

Friday - 7:30 - 12

Salary:

Your initial starting pay for this position will be £12.39 per hour. As this is deemed to be a training rate, your hourly rate will increase over your probationary period in 4 weekly increments as follows:

· 1st increment £13.05 per hour

· 2nd increment £14.08 per hour

· 3rd increment £15.12 per hour

· Full rate £16.26 per hour

Successful candidates will:

Person specification

· Experience with Metallurgy

· Experience with Ceramics

· Experience with Heat treatment and controlling instruments

· Experience with Quality systems e.g. UKAS accredited systems

· Computer literacy

· Experience with Metallographic preparation techniques and cut-off machines

· Strong mathematical ability

· Strong IT skills

· Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings, notes and specifications

· Previous experience gained within an Industrial Gas Turbines or Aerospace business would be beneficial

· Excellent attention to detail with the ability to produce neat and precise work

· To have a structured, methodical approach to all work tasks and proven problem solving skills

· Excellent communication skills and the ability to contribute in a team environment

Holiday Allowance: Starting 25 + 8 bank holidays - accruing an additional 5 days over 6 years’ service

About The Role:

· Update documents/procedures with changes in international standards and customer specifications

· Test on time to priorities:

- Stress rupture

- Creep rupture

- Tensile testing; ambient and elevated

- Hardness

- Ceramic testing

· Maintain mechanical test database

· Review, report and investigate mechanical testing failures and understand retest procedures

· Assist and provide cover for the manufacture of test specimen utilizing:

- Crush grinding

- Lathe

- EDM

- Drill

· Technical drawings

- Be able to interpret and adhere to AETC drawings and procedures (SLPs)

· Keep your area clean and tidy at all times

· Notify supervision of any equipment failures
