Position Overview & Specifications

ABP is a state state-of -the -art food manufacturing facility based in Perth, helping ABP bring the best beef to some of the nation`s biggest supermarkets. We are currently undergoing a significant multi million-pound development program to expand and upgrade the site, so now is an exciting time to come and work here.

We are currently looking to add to our fantastic team, as we have a fantastic opportunity to join us as an Assistant Technical Manager, to assist the Technical Manager in the running of the QA & Hygiene department and stepping up to cover the Technical Manager as required.

Main Duties and Responsibilities-Ensuring compliance to BRC, customer and group standards within the site.

  • Managing the site internal audit system, (Hygiene, GMP, Fabric and Glass & Hard Plastic).
  • Managing the site supplier & service approval system.
  • Managing site calibration system.
  • Liaising with departmental staff in complaint investigations and non-conformances and investigate root cause of external (and internal) non-conformances.
  • Managing and developing the QC / QA Team effectively to maximise their potential and oversee completion of day to day duties.
  • To liaise with the onsite Food Standard Scotland team as and when required.
  • To support production to actively maintain technical standards and assisting in tackling issues that may compromise technical integrity.
  • Ensure that all customer requirements are consistently met in a timely manner.
  • Monitor all issues including the identification of complaint trends and advise on corrective action.
  • Audits - assist in ensuring external and internal audits meet with company expectations.
  • Document control - ensure that forms, documents and processes etc are maintained and updated as necessary.
  • Assist in maintaining and developing a positive food safety culture on site to increase employee awareness to factors that may compromise food safety through guidance and training.
  • Maintain, control and conduct maintenance of the food safety & quality management system as required.
  • To adhere to current legislation and company hygiene policies with regards to safe food production and hygiene at all times
  • Hygiene - To ensure best practice is adopted at all times in your department for control of staff, product and environmental hygiene.
  • To ensure that you and your staff comply with the Company Health and Safety policy at all times
  • Ideally educated to degree level in a food science / agricultural discipline, but not essential.
  • Understanding of livestock / livestock production desirable but not essential
  • Experience in managing quality assurance systems within a fast paced chilled food manufacturing environment.
  • Good understanding of BRC Issue 8 and associated voluntary modules and their implementation.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislative requirements.
  • Good understanding of retailer codes of practices and web based portal systems.
  • Trained to minimum L3 in HACCP and Food Hygiene.
  • Auditor (lead or internal) training desirable.
  • Knowledge of basic microbiology.
  • Good working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Proactive, self motivated problem solver able to work as part of a team and autonomously.
  • High attention to detail.
  • Excellent communicator.
  • Ability to use own initiative
