Position Overview & Specifications

Would you like to work in a business that develops World Leading products that allow people who live with diabetes to have fuller lives; and that is committed to the protection of the health, safety and environment in all communities where we conduct business. If you do and are an Environmental, Health and Safety professional who has a proven track record in fostering an EHS culture aligned to our core values of; Pioneering, Achieving, Caring and Enduring, then we would like to talk to you.

With a track record of innovation and development, Abbott Diabetes Care designs, develops and manufactures leading-edge glucose monitoring systems and test strips for use in both home and hospital settings. We have a Global Centre of Excellence for Medical Devices based in Witney, Oxfordshire. The site manufactures significant quantities of test strips annually and has also been instrumental in the research, development and manufacture of the next generation FreeStyle Libre Flash Glucose Monitoring System, launched in September 2014. We are passionate about doing work that improves the quality of people’s lives.

We currently have an opportunity for a Senior Specialist to join our EHS team. In this role, you will play a key part in supporting keeping the Witney operation safe and compliant. You will interpret business standards and UK regulations, ensure this is reflected and up to date in site policies and procedures, and collaborate with cross functional teams to aid implementation. You will share your expertise in a variety of areas, including contractor management, incident response and investigation, compliance audits, as well as managing specific programmes tailored to the needs of the site and relevant to your skills and experience.

To be successful, you will hold a NEBOSH Diploma or Level 6 equivalent. Having a degree in a Science or Engineering discipline, would be beneficial, although not essential. You will bring with you a breadth of EHS experience, ideally gained in a manufacturing and/or engineering environment. We’re looking for someone who is ambitious, highly organised, and excited about joining a team at the forefront of Diabetes Care innovation. The ideal candidate will be a proactive individual who takes initiative and is able to work within a small team, but interact on a wider business scale. You will need to have excellent communication and time management skills, and be comfortable working in a fast-paced, changing environment.

As you’d expect from an innovative global healthcare company, we offer an excellent starting salary, and a competitive range of benefits including a defined contribution pension scheme, share ownership scheme, private healthcare, life assurance, and a flexible benefits scheme. Here at Witney, we also like to help our employees live life to the fullest, and therefore we offer a range of optional initiatives for you to get involved in, including onsite allotments, couch to 5k campaigns, bee keeping, yoga and more!
